My Family’s Favorite Stir-Fry Sauce

Originally published July 6, 2021

When all the veggies start piling up, I love to make a big stir-fry for dinner. Stir fry is a great catch-all. Once everything is coated in a tasty sauce, even the most unusual vegetables get devoured. Bottled sauces are alright in a pinch, but I’m going to show you how to make a super-tasty stir-fry sauce at home from scratch. It’s easy-peasy, even for busy families.

For the sitr-fry, use whatever meat and vegetable combination you think your family will enjoy. We usually stick to beef, chicken, or pork, and whatever vegetables we have around…. onions, carrots, celery, zucchini, green beans, peas, broccoli, peppers, turnips….

For the sauce, I use fresh garlic (minced would also work), fresh ginger (or frozen), soy sauce, and sugar. Good quality ingredients make a good sauce, so chose local whenever you can. Here is the recipe:

  • 2 tsp. oil

  • 1/2 tsp. ginger, minced

  • 1 Tablespoon garlic, chopped

  • 1/2 Cup soy sauce (I use gluten free tamari)

  • 1/2 Cup water

  • 3/4 Cup sugar (I prefer brown sugar)

Heat oil. Gently saute aromatics. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer.
